Park Road Houses is a 13-bed inpatient mental health rehabilitation and recovery unit based in Whitchurch, a suburb of Cardiff. We were awarded a grant through Keep Wales Tidy for the development of a Food Growing Garden in addition to our existing green space of woodland area, courtyard gardens and wildlife area! We are creating a horticultural therapy space to enable us to foster a nurturing environment for our patients to engage in meaningful activities and aid in their healing process.

The Garden Project @Park Road Houses provides our patients and staff with an opportunity to connect with nature, experience the joy of nurturing plants, and witness the growth and fruition of their efforts. This therapeutic environment aims to promote relaxation, reduce stress and anxiety, and enhance the overall sense of wellbeing.

Furthermore, participating in the development and maintenance of the garden has fostered a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and accomplishment among our patients and staff. It has created a supportive community where they can bond with one another and celebrate their successes together.
